Are you fascinated by the civilisations of antiquity or curious about the mysterious temples on the island of Malta?  Are you lured by archaeological sites and the legacy of ancient times?

Then join us on this half-day private tour as we explore the Ħaġar Qim, a temple that has stood the test of time for over 5000 years.  After a visit to this prehistoric heritage, we will follow the route to Dingli Cliffs on our way to another of Malta’s historic highlights – the medieval city of Mdina.  The historical significance of this city cannot be overlooked as Mdina is of Europe’s finest ancient walled cities with a history that spans back over 4000 years to the times of the Phoenicians.

Detailed Overview

The Ħaġar Qim & Mdina private tour is an easy tour that is aimed at taking you back in time to the dawn of civilisation.  With your private tour guide, you will be able to soak into the pristine view of the coast that acts as a backdrop to the archaeological site, simply elevating the whole experience.  As you wander around through this ancient place of worship, your guide will explain the Neolithic history of the islands, particularly this captivating spot which resonates with the mystery of the rituals and beliefs of the inhabitants.

Once we leave Ħaġar Qim, we will take a route that will bring us to Dingli Cliffs, a destination of natural splendour.  Set at a level of 250 meters above sea level, the cliffs offer breathtaking vistas.

We will leave Dingli Cliffs behind and continue on the last leg of our journey to Mdina.   Here in Mdina, the ancient capital of Malta, your tour guide will present the story of a city that has witnessed many rulers.  Each layer of history has its own curiosities, and the Medieval city we explore today is like a microcosm, housing an array of churches, palaces and notable buildings along its winding streets, all cocooned within its fortifications.  Mdina’s Baroque buildings evoke a sense of finery and elegance, and its manicured piazzas seem to come out of an illustration.

Highlights

  • Explore a UNESCO World Heritage Site – Ħaġar Qim, a unique site in the world.
  • Wonder at the ingenuity of the temple builders and how they achieved the construction of such a temple complex with massive stone blocks and how they achieved geometric perfection that aligns with celestial objects and the solstice phenomenon.
  • Set your eyes on the sweeping views of the Dingli Cliffs and the rugged Maltese coastline.
  • Embark on a walking tour of Mdina, passing through its imposing gate, meandering through its streets gazing at the noble and medieval architecture, while taking in a good dose of history that spans various civilisations and rulers like the Phoenicians, Romans, Arabs and the Knights of Malta.
