Detailed Overview
Join us on the food tour in Malta's capital city Valletta. On this 3-hour walking tour, we will linger together through the streets of Valletta, where our sightseeing will also be enriched by a food sampling experience. Throughout our excursion, our tour guide will captivate you with the story of food in Malta, a story that echoes the colourful history of the island.
We'll start the tour at the entrance of Valletta next to the New Parliament Building, where you'll get an introduction to the city. As we make our way through the streets of Valletta, you'll get to see the prominent landmarks along Republic Street and Merchants Street, two of the city's main streets.
We will also walk through Castille Square and visit the Upper Barrakka Gardens.
This is not only a sightseeing tour, but as we make our way through the city, we will make various stops at different food shops and bars, where we will sample typical street food. One cannot truly explain the traditional snack of 'pastizzi' in words. The flaky pastry concoction, typically filled with a mixture of pea mash or ricotta cheese, has to be tasted!
A variety of other specialities will be available along the tour. Local antipasti, Maltese staples like tuna ftira, Maltese bread, local cheese, ravioli and delightful local sweets will delight the senses, and you will understand how Malta's history directly influenced the islands' culinary fare.
On this tour, we will also visit Valletta's typical bars to taste lager, and Kinnie, which is considered as Malta's authentic soft drink.
The tour comes to an end at the city centre, but not without providing our guests with a true taste of the Maltese islands.
